Dr. Venkata Krishnaiah Kummara is working as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at FABULAS Laboratory of Prof. Raman Kashyap in collaboration with Prof. Younes Messaddeq’s group at the Center for Optics Photonics and Lasers (COPL), Laval University in Quebec City. His role is to develop novel lanthanide doped transparent nano-glass-ceramic materials and explore their potential for laser induced cooling by anti-Stokes fluorescence. He achieved a higher photoluminescence quantum yield (near to unity) and lower background absorption from one of his nanocrystallized low phonon energy glasses (obtained after appropriate heat-treatment) when compared to their parent glasses. Currently, he involved in the purification of the starting materials and the preparation process of highly pure nano-glass-ceramics in the form of bulk or optical fiber with the aim to realize laser cooling in these promising materials.
His research interest are: lanthanide-doped nano-glass-ceramic bulk and optical fibers for laser cooling, ultrafast laser waveguide inscription in transparent luminescent glasses, glass phosphors for light emitting diodes, up- and down-conversion materials for solar cell and laser glasses for high energy/high power lasers.
